27 Sep Underwater Songs: Debut Album by Luís Figueiredo and Manuel Rocha Available on November 13
“When it Rains” is the new single from “Underwater Songs”, the latest project by pianist and composer Luís Figueiredo (Cristina Branco, António Zambujo, among others) and guitarist and singer-songwriter Manuel Rocha (Luísa Sobral, MARO). The album, released by Lado B Records, will be available on November 13th and will be presented live on the same day at the Saramago Foundation in Lisbon, and in Coimbra, at Salão Brazil, on November 22nd.
Underwater Songs is a collection of songs, primarily ballads, written by Luís Figueiredo between 2022 and 2024. In this work, the composer offers simple and unpretentious compositions, yet full of meaning, sometimes poetic, with lyrics in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. Each track takes us into a universe filled with nostalgia and loss, with deeply visual soundscapes reminiscent of other arts such as cinema or photography.
The album’s sound is driven by Luís Figueiredo’s piano, with Manuel Rocha’s engaging voice creating a subtle dialogue, offering a contemplative and emotionally moving musical experience. With an aesthetic approach that balances simplicity and depth, Underwater Songs is an extraordinary musical journey that invites listeners to pause, listen, and reflect on the beauty of the songs.
The release of Underwater Songs marks another important step in the careers of Luís Figueiredo and Manuel Rocha, both recognized for their work with some of today’s top musicians across genres like jazz, fado, Portuguese popular music, and more classical forms.
