Luca Argel

The Luso-Brazilian musician, poet, and writer Luca Argel presents in his work a distinctive sound, with an intense research effort on the roots of samba and its connections with the Portuguese colonial heritage.

In 2016, he released his debut album “Tipos que tendem para o silêncio” (Types Tending Toward Silence), followed by “Bandeira” in 2017, and “Conversa de Fila” (Queue Talk) in 2019, all highly praised for the intelligence of the lyrics and the sweetness of his voice. In 2021, he returned with the acclaimed “Samba de Guerrilha” (Guerilla Samba), which rescues the political history of samba, its protagonists, and the prominent role they played in the fight against slavery, racism, poverty, and military dictatorship in Brazil. The Blitz considered it one of the albums of the year in 2021.

Living in Portugal for over a decade, Luca Argel is keen on promoting artistic cross-pollination and musical partnerships, which have been a recurring feature in his career: with Ana Deus (Três Tristes Tigres) in the project “Ruído Vário” (Various Noise), collaborating with the musician and DJ from Porto, Keso, and with the popular phenomenon A Garota Não in the single “Países que ninguém invade” (Countries No One Invades).

Luca Argel is a multifaceted artist and with the actress Nádia Yracema and the illustrator António Jorge Gonçalves, he created the multidisciplinary show based on the album of the same name, still on tour, “Samba de Guerrilha”.

With the single “Peça desculpas, senhor Presidente” (Apologize, Mr. President) in 2023, he anticipates “Sabina”, an album of originals inspired by Candomblé and the history of Brazil, addressing current themes such as racism, justice, solidarity, and other relevant issues that tackle inequalities on various social fronts.

Live, Luca Argel captivates the audience with Afro-Brazilian sounds that nod to rock, funk, and of course, samba, all loaded with beautiful poems and messages that stir emotions and provoke reflection. Sunny, danceable, and vibrant performances where no one remains indifferent.

Still fresh in our memory is Luca Argel’s participation in the Festival da Canção, in a medley dedicated to the 25th of April. After that unforgettable moment, Luca Argel embarks on a tour to present his latest album “Sabina”.

SAMBA DE GUERRILHA

‘Samba de Guerrilha’ is a transversal and multidisciplinary project, conceived and created by Luca Argel, which has four distinct fronts of realisation: phonographic production, literary publication, illustration and stage staging, crossing the three disciplines.

VISITA
