Canções para beber com Pessoa
“Canções para beber com Pessoa” is the second album in which Ana Deus and Luca Argel take on the ambitious challenge of setting the poetry of the eternal Fernando Pessoa to music, following their previous experience with “Ruído Vário”.
“Canções para beber com Pessoa” draws from “Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám”, considered the book in Pessoa’s personal library with the most handwritten notes. In these pages, Fernando Pessoa experimented with translations of the Persian poet’s verses while also sketching his own original poetry.
With regular meter and themes ranging from the pleasures of leisure and wine, to existence, the passage of time, and fate, this is the first time Pessoa’s rubaiyat have been transformed into music.
Presented in an intimate format — two voices and a guitar — the duo returns to the stage with a set of songs that serve Pessoa’s words in refreshing, delicate doses. The crystalline intensity of Ana Deus’ voice (Ban, Três Tristes Tigres, Rádio Macau, Dead Combo, Osso Vaidoso) combines with the sweetness of Luca Argel’s interpretation, creating a nuanced, intimate dialogue.
The project, featuring songs such as “Fingi Quem Fui”, “É Inútil Dizer”, “O Som das Águas” and “O Fim do Longo Dia Inútil”, has already been presented live at the Casa Fernando Pessoa (Lisbon), Biblioteca Municipal Almeida Garrett (Porto), Coimbra Book Fair, Ponto C (Penafiel), Teatro Sá da Bandeira (Santarém), Cineteatro António Lamoso (Santa Maria da Feira), and the Ovar Literary Festival, among others. In 2026, the project will continue its journey across stages from north to south of Portugal.
