UNDERWATER SONGS

Luís Figueiredo and Manuel Rocha present “Underwater Songs”, an intimate dialogue between voice and piano, featuring songs of refined simplicity that explore memory, soundscapes, and deep emotion.

Underwater Songs is an intimate work bringing together a collection of ballads composed by Luís Figueiredo between 2022 and 2024. In this project, the award-winning pianist and composer offers songs of sophisticated simplicity, with lyrics in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, creating cinematic soundscapes that evoke feelings of nostalgia and contemplation.

The album is guided by the sensitive piano playing of Luís Figueiredo, a musician widely recognized for his work with Cristina Branco, António Zambujo, and Salvador Sobral, among others. A leading figure in jazz and contemporary Portuguese music, he has built a remarkable career as a pianist, composer, and arranger, moving naturally between jazz, fado, and classical music. The distinctive voice of guitarist Manuel Rocha (a collaborator of Luísa Sobral and MARO) complements the musical narrative, establishing an intimate and emotionally charged dialogue with the piano. Standout singles from the album include “When It Rains” and “Aviso”, both warmly received by critics.

Released in autumn 2024 by Lado B Records, “Underwater Songs” has already been performed live at venues such as the José Saramago Foundation (Lisbon), the historic Salão Brazil (Coimbra), BOTA Anjos (Lisbon), and the “Café Curto” sessions at Convento São Francisco (Coimbra), among others. The tour is set to continue in 2026, with new dates bringing the emotional depth and delicate beauty of this singular work back to the stage.
