Underwater Songs is a collection of songs, primarily ballads, written by Luís Figueiredo between 2022 and 2024. These are simple and unpretentious compositions, yet full of meaning, often poetic, with lyrics in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. Each track invites us to enter a universe filled with nostalgia and loss, with deeply visual soundscapes that evoke other arts such as cinema or photography.
The sound of the album is guided by Luís Figueiredo’s piano (known for his work with Cristina Branco, António Zambujo, among others), with the enveloping voice of guitarist and singer-songwriter Manuel Rocha (who has worked with Luísa Sobral, MARO) creating a subtle dialogue that offers a contemplative and moving musical experience. With an aesthetic approach that combines simplicity and depth, Underwater Songs is an extraordinary musical journey that invites the listener to pause, listen, and reflect on the beauty of the songs.
The release of Underwater Songs marks another important step in the careers of the renowned musicians Luís Figueiredo and Manuel Rocha, both recognized for their collaborations with some of the finest artists of today, spanning jazz, fado, Portuguese popular music, and more classical genres.
“When it Rains” was the lead single from “Underwater Songs”. The album, released by Lado B Records, was released on November 13, 2024 and presented live, on the same day, at the Saramago Foundation in Lisbon, and in Coimbra, at the Brazil Hall, on November 22.
