Cristina Branco begins international tour in Istambul

The latest album by Cristina Branco, Mãe, a tribute to traditional Fado, returns to stages around the world on 16 February. Turkey, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany are the stops until summer.

Cristina Branco takes to the stage at the CRR Konser Salonu in Istanbul next Sunday, 16 February, to present Mãe, her latest album dedicated to traditional Fado. Originally scheduled for last October and postponed due to extraordinary circumstances in Turkey, this concert marks the beginning of an extensive European tour that will, until June, pass through France, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany.

Cristina Branco will be accompanied by a trio of outstanding musicians: Luís Figueiredo (piano), Bernardo Romão (Portuguese guitar), and Bernardo Moreira (double bass). The repertoire will include not only songs from the album Mãe but also a carefully curated selection of fados and songs that have marked her remarkable career, keeping alive the tradition of giving voice to great poets of Portuguese literature.

The Mãe tour has been a remarkable success since 2023, with over fifty concerts performed across Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. A year and a half filled with performances that have also included Abril – Cristina Branco Canta José Afonso, a 2007 work revisited on the occasion of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Revolução dos Cravos, which will return in 2025 for several concerts to be announced soon.

With an internationally acclaimed career spanning 18 albums, Cristina Branco is one of the most significant voices in contemporary Portuguese music. Her journey has been recognised with numerous awards, including two Prix Choc from Le Monde de la Musique magazine and the SPA Album of the Year Award for Menina (2016). Her unique approach, blending the tradition of Fado with influences from jazz and literature, has cemented her position as a leading ambassador of Portuguese culture worldwide.
