18 Nov Cara de Espelho perform live in Lisbon and Guimarães – November 29 and 30
The band Cara de Espelho is gearing up for two concerts that promise to mark the conclusion of the 2024 musical year. On November 29, the group will take the stage at São Luiz Teatro Municipal in Lisbon, and the following day, November 30, they will debut at the Vila Flor Cultural Center in Guimarães.
After an intense summer that included performances at renowned festivals such as FNAC Live, MED Loulé, FMM Sines, and Bons Sons, the band has solidified its presence in the Portuguese music scene. In September, they stood out with performances in Tavira at the Mediterranean Diet Fair, at Festa do Avante, and Amadora em Festa.
Their journey through major stages and festivals has also been marked by the introduction of new songs which, while not yet released, have become a highlight of Cara de Espelho’s shows. Tracks like “D de Denúncia,” “Roda de Crédito,” and “O que esta gente quer” have resonated strongly with audiences during their summer performances and are part of the setlist for these two upcoming concerts in Lisbon and Guimarães.
Since their debut in October 2023 with the singles Corridinho Português and Político Antropófago, Cara de Espelho has been building a unique musical identity. Their debut album, released on January 26, 2024, lived up to the expectations set by their initial singles, showcasing an innovative sound that bridges tradition and modernity.
The most recent single, Testa de Ferro, released in September, further demonstrates the band’s ability to craft creative and contemporary songs with strong media presence. This creative process is vividly portrayed in the documentary As Caras de Espelho, presented in June this year, offering an intimate glimpse into the project and revealing the bond between the musicians and the creative processes that underpin their work.
The concerts in Lisbon and Guimarães represent the culmination of an intense year of work and artistic growth, featuring unreleased songs and promising unique moments of connection with fans and lovers of contemporary Portuguese music.
“So how does one meet expectations? Precisely by meeting them. It may seem redundant, but it is simply the application of a modern yet timeless reality: seeing our unique face in the common mirror. A mission well accomplished right from the start, I’d say. And on that, I agree with myself, as I’m sure many others would as well.”
Sérgio Godinho
“With a sonic and poetic identity that draws heavily from traditional Portuguese music and the sharpness of its poets, they set their sights on a future that demands to be critical and engaged. With the incisive and brilliant lyrics of Pedro da Silva Martins, the instrument creations of Carlos Guerreiro, the guitars of Luís J Martins, the percussion of Sérgio Nascimento, and the voice, strength, and charisma of Maria Antónia Mendes.”
Bernardo Mendonça in Expresso, 14.08.24
‘Throughout, this album presents Lisbon’s sound as both traditional and contemporary, – perfectly portrayed in ‘Corridinho Português’, ‘Dr. Coisinho’ and ‘Fadistão’ – making sure tradition is porous to every social shift.’
