Simin Tander makes her debut in Portugal on September 19 in Oeiras

Considered by critics one of the most exciting voices on today’s European jazz scene, the German-Afghan singer based in Norway presents her new album, The Wind, live at the Ruy de Carvalho Municipal Auditorium in Carnaxide, Oeiras. Tickets are already on sale.

The Wind is an immersive blend of melodic contemporary jazz, atmospheric folk, and deep grooves. Drawing inspiration from the folklore and poetry of Afghanistan, Spain, Italy, England, and Norway, the album’s title symbolizes the fusion of contrasts—gentle breezes and raging storms alike—evoking transformation, freedom, and unity.

Internationally acclaimed for her expressive and evocative voice, Simin Tander received the German Record Critics’ Award in 2016 for her ECM release with pianist Tord Gustavsen. Recently nominated for the 2024 German Jazz Prize in the “Vocal” category, she has captivated audiences with a timbre that is both powerful and delicate, a unique approach to vocal improvisation, and compositions that transcend genre boundaries.

In her Portuguese debut, she will perform in a quartet alongside Björn Meyer (bass guitar), Samuel Rohrer (drums and electronics), and Christo Barbas (ney/oblique flute).
