A Brilliant 2024
2024 will go down in history as the year Cara de Espelho made their debut and established as one of the most innovative and promising bands in the Portuguese music scene. From the release of their debut album in January, the band achieved remarkable recognition from critics and the public, firmly establishing their name in contemporary music
The self-titled album, Cara de Espelho, released on 26 January 2024, exceeded the expectations set by their initial singles, “Corridinho Português” and “Político Antropófago”. It stood out for its unique sound, blending traditional Portuguese musical elements with a contemporary and experimental approach. The album’s authenticity and innovation secured the band a prominent place on the main national lists of the best albums of the year, cementing their status as one of the boldest acts in Portuguese music.
Another remarkable moment of 2024 was the documentary “As Caras de Espelho”, released in June, offering an intimate glimpse behind the scenes of the band. The film unveiled the camaraderie among the musicians and the creative processes underpinning the group, deepening the emotional connection with their audience and allowing fans to immerse themselves in the artistic universe of Cara de Espelho.
A Summer of Stages
The summer of 2024 was an intense period for Cara de Espelho, marked by performances at some of the Portuguese leading festivals. The band graced the stages of FNAC Live, Festival MED (Loulé), FMM Sines, and Bons Sons, captivating audiences with electrifying performances and a unique stage presence.
In addition, they took part in other prominent events, such as the Feira da Dieta Mediterrânica (Tavira), Festa do Avante, and Amadora em Festa, expanding their reach and solidifying their reputation as one of the brightest talents in contemporary Portuguese music.
Reflecting this success, Cara de Espelho received two nominations for the Iberian Festival Awards in the categories of Best Live Performance (PT/ES) for their shows at Festival Bons Sons and Festival MED. These nominations highlight the group’s impact on major stages and celebrate their energy and creativity.
Voting is open to the public until 17 January 2025.

“So how does one meet expectations? Precisely by meeting them. It may seem redundant, but it is simply the application of a modern yet timeless reality: seeing our unique face in the common mirror. A mission well accomplished right from the start, I’d say. And on that, I agree with myself, as I’m sure many others would as well.”
Sérgio Godinho
“With a sonic and poetic identity that draws heavily from traditional Portuguese music and the sharpness of its poets, they set their sights on a future that demands to be critical and engaged. With the incisive and brilliant lyrics of Pedro da Silva Martins, the instrument creations of Carlos Guerreiro, the guitars of Luís J Martins, the percussion of Sérgio Nascimento, and the voice, strength, and charisma of Maria Antónia Mendes.”
Bernardo Mendonça in Expresso, 14.08.24
‘Throughout, this album presents Lisbon’s sound as both traditional and contemporary, – perfectly portrayed in ‘Corridinho Português’, ‘Dr. Coisinho’ and ‘Fadistão’ – making sure tradition is porous to every social shift.’
