ABOUT JULIANA LINHARES
With a long-standing career in Brazil, including projects like Pietá (since 2012) and Iara Ira, Juliana Linhares began focusing on her solo career in 2021 with the acclaimed album Nordeste Ficção, a timeless classic of Brazilian music.
In addition to her strength as a performer, her background in the performing arts brings a strong dramaturgical element to her songs, making them a natural fit for soundtracks in audiovisual productions.
Following the album’s success, the opening track of Nordeste Ficção, “Bombinha” was featured in the soundtrack of the TV series Mar do Sertão, was re-recorded by Daniela Mercury, and more recently, “Balanceiro” and “Perfume de Araçá” were included in productions by Rede Globo, currently airing in Brazil and on Globo Internacional TV.
Nordeste Ficção
Juliana Linhares‘ debut solo album, Nordeste Ficção, which is currently touring in Brazil and around the world, features artistic direction by Marcus Preto and musical production by Elísio Freitas. This work is conceived as a theatrical script, a novel of autofiction, and a cinematic docudrama. Across 11 tracks, the work of the Potiguar artist exudes irresistible beauty and joy, evoking the delightful classic LPs of Amelinha, Elba Ramalho, Cátia de França, Terezinha de Jesus, and other artists of the Brazil Northeastern generation who emerged in the late ’70s to early ’80s. It also captures the melodic and poetic grandeur of composers like Alceu Valença, Ednardo, Fagner, Belchior, and Zé Ramalho, while engaging in dialogue with their successors from the 1990s: Chico César, Zeca Baleiro, Rita Ribeiro and Lenine. |
“The Northeast woman, Northeast cactus, the heat, the politics, the forró, the lambada, the bolero, the xote, the frevo, the electric guitar, and the accordion—all of these fit perfectly in Juliana Linhares’ debut solo album. The Northeast woman, Northeast cactus, the heat, the politics, the forró, the lambada, the bolero, the xote, the frevo, the electric guitar, and the accordion—all of these fit perfectly in Juliana Linhares’ debut solo album.”
Jornal O Globo
“The incandescent stage presence of Juliana Linhares on stage (…) evoked the rugged figure of Elba Ramalho in the minds of some spectators during the premiere of the Nordeste Ficção show.”
