Cara de Espelho with two nominations at the PLAY: Traditional Music Awards

The project Cara de Espelho — formed by Maria Antónia Mendes, Carlos Guerreiro, Nuno Prata, Sérgio Nascimento, Luís J Martins, and Pedro da Silva Martins — is among the nominees for the PLAY: Traditional Music Awards, in the categories of Best Traditional Music Album and Best Reinterpretation of Traditional Music.

Their self-titled debut album, released in January 2024, surpassed the expectations set by their first singles, “Corridinho Português” and “Político Antropófago”. It stood out for its unique sound that blends Portuguese musical tradition with a contemporary and experimental approach. The album’s authenticity and innovation secured the band a spot on the main national year-end “best albums” lists, solidifying their place as one of the boldest projects in the Portuguese music scene. The singles “O Que Esta Gente Quer” and “Elefante no Hemiciclo” are the latest examples of the band’s distinctive sound and sharp lyricism.

The PLAY: Traditional Music Awards celebrate Portuguese traditional music, honoring artists, albums, and performances that keep the country’s musical heritage alive while pushing it forward. The awards ceremony will take place during the Artes à Vila festival, at the Monastery of Batalha, on July 13 at 5 PM. Categories include Best Traditional Music Album, Best Traditional Artist or Group, Best Instrumental Album or EP, and Best Reinterpretation of Traditional Music.
