28 Jan Cara de Espelho release their new album “B”
Cara de Espelho’s second studio album is now available on streaming platforms and in stores on CD and vinyl. A mordant portrait of the present, it brings the spoken word back to the centre of the song. Following “D de Denúncia” and “Bem-Vindo”, “Cara Podre” is the new single. The live debut of “B” takes place on February 20 at Cineteatro Louletano. Further shows follow on March 5 at Culturgest (Lisbon), March 28 at Casa das Artes de Famalicão, April 11 at Teatro Aveirense, and—announcing a new tour date—May 2 in Castelo Branco. Tickets are now on sale at the usual outlets.
Following Cara de Espelho (2024), an album that introduced one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Portuguese music, the band now presents “B”, a record that deepens their creative universe and reaffirms the central role of language as the driving force of the song.
The title—simple yet suggestive—evokes the idea of the “B-side”: not as a lesser space, but as a territory where other layers of discourse are revealed. On “B”, Cara de Espelho sharpen their gaze, use irony as a tool, and build songs that observe behaviours, narratives and contradictions of everyday life. There are those who “accept and become part of the cult,” those trapped in a “wheel” that never stops, those who deny evidence with absolute conviction, and those who turn everything—from land to relationships—into commodities. Without slogans or moralising, the album chooses instead to show, suggest, and leave room for the listener.
The lyrics, written by Pedro da Silva Martins, unfold across a cohesive tracklist in which each song functions as a fragment of a single, larger portrait. Songs such as “A Seita”, “Gigantone”, “Roda de Crédito”, “AI”, “Cara Podre”, “Buraco”, “Pica-Miolos” and “Aldeia Fantasma” blend satire, dark humour and social observation, alongside already familiar tracks like “Bem-Vindo” and “D de Denúncia”. Together, they reinforce the identity of a band that treats the Portuguese language as living, sonic and critical material.
Released as the album’s accompanying single, “Cara Podre” exposes—with cutting irony—the recurring exercise of public denial, self-justifying discourse and rhetoric that relativises everything, even in the face of the obvious. Without pointing to specific names or places, the song constructs a recognisable portrait of those who speak loudly, look away, and turn language into a shield.
Musically, “B” expands Cara de Espelho’s language, weaving together traditional instruments, timbral experimentation, discreet electronics and unconventional rhythmic solutions, always in service of the word. The arrangements are collective and reflect the closeness and complicity the band developed throughout an extensive and fruitful tour with Cara de Espelho—a decisive stage experience that shaped the sound, dynamics and breathing of this new record.
“B” was recorded at Estúdio Louva-a-Deus in Lisbon between February and July 2025, produced by Nelson Carvalho and Cara de Espelho, recorded and mixed by Nelson Carvalho, and mastered by Mário Barreiros. The visual identity maintains the project’s aesthetic continuity, with design and imagery by Ana Viana, who has been responsible for Cara de Espelho’s graphic universe since the beginning.
