28 Nov “Mulheres de Abril: Cristina Branco releases the digital version of her new album
“Mulheres de Abril”, the new album by Cristina Branco, is today released in full on digital platforms. In what is now her 19th studio album in a 28-year career, the singer returns to the universe of José Afonso with a work that shines a light on the women the composer sang about: their intimate narratives, silences and acts of resistance. A carefully curated selection of songs that highlights the composer’s progressive vision of the female role in a society undergoing transformation. The album can be discovered live on 29 November at the Auditório Municipal Carlos do Carmo (Lagoa) and on 17 December at Casa da Música (Porto).
Revealing dimensions of José Afonso’s legacy that remain little explored, “Mulheres de Abril” brings together eight emblematic compositions: “Verdade e Mentira”, “Canção do Desterro”, “Mulher da Erva” and “Verdes São os Campos” are the singles now available digitally, in a tracklist that also includes “Teresa Torga”, “Canção da Paciência”, “De Não Saber o Que Me Espera” and “Endechas a Bárbara Escrava”, all previously released.
“Mulheres de Abril” — an album that echoes voices of freedom, intimacy and resistance — was first released exclusively on CD and vinyl. The LP edition was carefully pressed on 180-gram coloured vinyl at 45 revolutions per minute, ensuring a high-fidelity listening experience. The faster rotation preserves every detail, texture and nuance of Cristina Branco’s performance in a piece made to be listened to, cherished and felt with the attention that April deserves.
The songs that make up this work will come to life on stage in the show “Mulheres de Abril – Cristina Branco canta José Afonso”, whose national tour will, in this final stretch of the year, include highlights such as the concerts on 29 November at the Auditório Municipal Carlos do Carmo (Lagoa) and on 17 December at Casa da Música (Porto). On 14 December, the singer will perform a showcase at FNAC Chiado, accompanied only on piano by Ricardo Dias, who is also responsible for the album’s arrangements and production.
On the album and on stage, Cristina Branco is also joined by Alexandre Frazão (drums), Bernardo Moreira (double bass), Mário Delgado (guitars) and Tomás Marques (saxophone).
