14 Mar Luísa Sobral celebrates 10th anniversary of debut album ‘The Cherry On My Cake’
Today marks the anniversary of Luisa Sobral’s highly acclaimed debut album, The Cherry on My Cake, released on March 14, 2011, when Luísa was only 24 years old. The album was an immediate success, received widespread appraise, and went Platinum.
It was then followed by extensive national and international tours. Luísa played at the Barcelona, Cartagena, and London Jazz Festivals, opened for Ute Lemper at Union Chapel (London) and for Melody Gardot during a tour in Germany. The year culminated with a performance on the mythical BBC program ‘Later… with Jools Holland’.
Today, ten years later, Luísa Sobral has become one of the most important composers and singers of the new generation of Portuguese musicians.
Since 2011, she released four equally acclaimed albums – There’s a Flower in my Bedroom (2013), Lu-Pu-I-Pi-Sa-Pa (2014), Luísa (2016), and Rosa (2018) – and composed for renowned Portuguese artists like António Zambujo, Ana Moura, Gisela João and for her brother Salvador Sobral, with Amar Pelos Dois, the song that gave Portugal its first-ever victory at the Eurovision Song Festival in 2017.
Luísa continues to be a regular presence at the national and international level, touring regularly from the North to the South of Portugal and in countries as different as Israel, Morocco, South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Brazil. In 2019, Luísa played in Japan and at the prestigious WOMAD Festival in Adelaide, Australia.
As a new album takes shape, Luísa is available for touring during 2021 and 2022.
