A living tribute to the work of Fausto Bordalo Dias, brought to life by a collective of immigrant artists. “Do Cabo do Mundo” blends rhythms, cultures and geographies in a show that celebrates music as a meeting place.
“Do Cabo do Mundo” celebrates the work of Fausto Bordalo Dias through the diverse perspective of a collective of immigrant artists living in Portugal. Conceived by musicians Carlos Cesar Motta and Fred Martins, with the participation of creators from different parts of the world, this tribute offers a vibrant encounter between Fausto’s songbook and the sounds that traverse the Portuguese-speaking diaspora.
Inspired by African and Latin American traditions, the arrangements unfold against a dense and expressive percussive backdrop, where rhythm takes centre stage. It is from this foundation that the fusion between Fausto’s musical framework and the influences brought by each performer is built, reflecting the collective’s cultural and identity-based diversity. The project draws on the experience of the immigrant artist, who inhabits a space of transition between cultures, languages and territories. This ‘in-between place’, simultaneously challenging and fertile, is understood as a creative driving force. For Portuguese speakers, this symbolic space lies upon the Atlantic — the ocean that links Portugal, Brazil and Africa and shapes stories of departure, encounter and transformation. It is also upon this ocean that Fausto was born, literally and symbolically, and from which he built a body of work marked by travel, cultural fusion and a profoundly universalist vision. “Do Cabo do Mundo” revisits this repertoire with respect and boldness, offering new interpretations of songs that span generations.
With a CD release and availability on digital platforms scheduled for spring 2026, the project makes its live debut on 11 April at the Teatro-Cine in Pombal.
