Do Cabo do Mundo releases digital album on july 10

Conceived by Carlos Cesar Motta and Fred Martins, the project brings together musicians living in Portugal to revisit Fausto’s musical universe through new cultural and geographical perspectives. The album will be released digitally on 10 July, followed by its live premiere on 11 July at FESTA – Sons da Lusofonia in Ovar.

Some artists create work that remains in constant motion. Fausto is one of them. A poet, songwriter and storyteller, he made travel, diaspora, encounters between peoples and the memory of the Atlantic world central themes of contemporary Portuguese music. It is perhaps no coincidence that he was born in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, during a sea voyage between Portugal and Angola—a place of passage that, decades later, seems to acquire renewed meaning in Do Cabo do Mundo – An Immigrant Tribute to Fausto.

Conceived by musicians Carlos Cesar Motta and Fred Martins, the project brings together a collective of immigrant musicians living in Portugal who share a common experience: inhabiting the space between countries, cultures and identities. It is precisely from this in-between space that this tribute emerges, shaped by diverse musical and cultural perspectives yet united by the Portuguese language and by the enduring relevance of Fausto’s body of work.

The album will be available on all major digital streaming platforms from 10 July. On 11 July, it will receive its live premiere at FESTA – Sons da Lusofonia, with a concert scheduled for 6:00 pm on the Palco Verde stage at Parque Urbano de Ovar.

More than an album of cover versions, Do Cabo do Mundo – An Immigrant Tribute to Fausto offers a fresh reading of Fausto’s repertoire. While preserving the power and integrity of his songwriting, these songs take on new colours through the African and Brazilian musical traditions brought by the artists who perform them.

The album’s musical direction is by Carlos Cesar Motta, who shares the arrangements with Fred Martins and Kito Siqueira. The result is a sound in which rhythm plays a central role: a musical language shaped by polyrhythms, rich percussion, and the natural coexistence of different musical traditions, bringing Fausto’s songbook into dialogue with genres such as samba, maracatu, forró, bossa nova, morna, funaná, and other traditions from the Atlantic world.

The performers’ diverse origins and accents also become an integral part of the album’s musical narrative. If, in Fausto’s work, the Atlantic is a territory of departure, arrival and cultural encounter, in this project it also becomes a space for contemporary creation, where Portugal enters into musical dialogue with Brazil, Cape Verde and Mozambique.

Across nine tracks, Do Cabo do Mundo – An Immigrant Tribute to Fausto revisits some of Fausto’s most emblematic compositions:

Lembra-me um Sonho Lindo
Por Este Rio Acima
Ali Está a Cidade
Foi Por Ela
De Ocidente ao Oriente
Gargalham Muito as Sarracenas
Soldados de Baco
À Deriva Porto Rico
Rosalinda

The album features special guest appearances by singers Selma Uamusse, Nancy Vieira, Luca Argel, and Nani Medeiros, alongside a band made up of musicians from across the Portuguese-speaking world:

Fred Martins – violão
Rolando Semedo – bass
Carlos Cesar Motta – percussions
Pablo Marques – winds
Kito Siqueira – winds
Pri Azevedo – keyboard & acordeon

More than a celebration of one of Portugal’s greatest songwriters, Do Cabo do Mundo – An Immigrant Tribute to Fausto reaffirms the enduring ability of Fausto’s work to inspire new interpretations and new encounters. Rather than recreating the past, this tribute extends the journey begun by his songs, transforming them into a space for dialogue between cultures, generations, and the different shores of the Atlantic.

An independent release distributed by Symphonic, the album was co-produced by Casa Varela and Teatro-Cine de Pombal, where it received its live premiere in April.
