Pedro Jóia with new album available in all stores and digital plataforms

Four years after the tribute to Zeca Afonso in “Zeca,” an album that became the best-selling in Portugal and was unanimously distinguished with the Carlos Paredes Award the following year, Pedro Jóia returns to his original repertoire.

“Mosaico” arrives on February 23rd on digital platforms and in all stores, in CD and vinyl formats. On the release day, Pedro Joia will perform live at a showcase at Fnac Chiado at 6:30 pm. On March 3rd, the artist will be at Fnac Norteshopping at 4:00 pm.

What mosaic is this of different latitudes and complicity? The guitar is the guiding thread, and Pedro Jóia is the helmsman of a great and fascinating journey. The departure is made on the wings of “Ícaro,” there is flamenco in “O Luar dos Peixes,” brightened by pianist Victor Zamora, a “Zapateado” with dance steps, and a fado filled with the romance of French chanson in “Fadinho do Atentado,” with José Manuel Neto and João Frade. Edu Miranda’s mandolin accompanies the “Volta ao Sol,” and Mbye Ebrima lends the magic of the kora to “Jula Jekere.”

The strings enhance “Adagietto,” while “Três Pontas” is a musical tribute to the city of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The tide rises and falls in “Acqua Alta” (variations on two motifs by A. Vivaldi), and here we are at the port of the Mediterranean and baroque “Catania.” In good hands as one could only expect from Pedro Jóia.

These are guitar phrases that do not need words to speak. They awaken emotions, create images, and evoke representations. Because before the virtuoso, and “Mosaico” is of impeccable technical skill, there is a humanist accompanied by a guitar full of people inside. Of friendships and affections gathered since he turned professional at the age of 19 and which make him a solo musician but never alone.
