CALÍOPE live in Lagoa to celebrate international women’s day

On March 8, 2024, at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium in Lagoa, International Women’s Day will be celebrated with a concert by the group CALÍOPE, featuring the singers Marta Hugon, Elisa Rodrigues, and Joana Alegre.

CALÍOPE is an Artistic Creation and Gender Equality Awareness Project that aims to give visibility to female composers who perform their own creations, embodying the ability to create and lead their artistic careers.

Following the acclaimed self-titled album released in 2023, which brought together the creations and performances of nine Portuguese-speaking artists, including Aline Frazão, Ana Bacalhau, Joana Espadinha, Joana Machado, Luísa Sobral, and Marta Hugon, Elisa Rodrigues, and Joana Alegre themselves, with artistic direction by Marta Hugon and musical direction by Luís Figueiredo, CALÍOPE is back for a unique concert that is more than just an artistic celebration; it is an invitation to reflect on the importance of female representation in music and society. CALÍOPE aims to be an inspiring force in promoting gender equality, using music as a means of expression and empowerment.

Before the CALÍOPE concert, scheduled for 7:00 PM, the International Women’s Day Commemoration program in Lagoa includes a Round Table discussion at 3:00 PM, with classes from the municipality’s schools in which Marta Hugon, Elisa Rodrigues, and Joana Alegre will participate, the highlighted singers for this not-to-be-missed event.
